Kingston HyperX Predator DDR3 2400MHz 8GB Memory Review

Starting things off by taking a look at the packaging, we can see that Kingston have stuck with their tried and tested method of keeping the modules with a no-frills attitude and instead of being plastered with information, you instead find a plastic pack with a clear view of the modules and a warranty tape sealing it all together.

We also find a barcode sticker giving us a brief amount of information on the kit in question. This includes the model number, capacity, speed, CAS latency, and quantity.

When the modules have been taken out of the packaging, we can see that the majority of the heatspreader is in typical Kingston blue. A big part of the modules also include a black X with some Kingston and HyperX Predator branding.

The top of the modules also include a special heat dissipation technology known as HTX (HyperX Thermal Xchange) which helps in exhausting air out of the heatspreaders, and thus away from the IC’s. To the average eye, this just looks like a style move with some slashed fins, but there is definitely more to it than meets the eye.

When we take a closer look at the modules, we can see how each side of the heatspreader joins together using a link mechanism to keep the two sides of the module bonded together. Much like the T1 range of memory, the Predator is a little bit taller than your average HyperX memory, such as the Genesis product series, but for higher specification memory, this is certainly needed to beat the ultimate killer; heat.

While we’re zoomed in closer, we move around to the sticker on one side to find a similar amount of information as we saw on the packaging, including model number, quantity and voltage of 1.65V. This label also acts as a warranty sticker and if removed, can void your warranty completely.
