Krispy Kreme Mocks PSN Outage with Free Doughnut Giveaway for Gamers

The PlayStation Network went offline for several hours yesterday, leaving many gamers unsure of how to pass the time. Some, however, were able to fill their stomachs without spending a dime. The American doughnut chain Krispy Kreme decided to give away free doughnuts for a limited time as a response.
Krispy Kreme’s Playful Response to PSN Issues
The announcement came through social media, where the company took advantage of the PSN issue’s virality to offer a small treat to dessert lovers.
Krispy Kreme posted a tweet saying, “Calling all gamers: this play station still works. Grab a free Original Glazed Doughnut today from 5-7 PM—because sweet rewards don’t need a server.”
Of course, this was a marketing move, but it shows how serious the PSN issue was for gamers. The tweet went viral, even catching the attention of a company unrelated to gaming, which saw the chance to gain some attention by making light of the situation.
As of now, the tweet has over 400,000 views, a huge jump considering Krispy Kreme’s usual tweets only get 10,000-15,000 views. Clearly, the company’s social media strategy worked well.
