Larian Promises Divinity Will Be Well Optimized, No Need for New RAM or SSDs
The prices of RAM and SSDs keep rising, and this is becoming a problem for everyone — even for Larian Studios, which is currently developing Divinity, soon to be released in Early Access. However, the company plans to keep this in mind during the game’s development.
Larian’s CEO Talks About the Challenge
In an interview with TheGamer, Larian CEO Swen Vincke said that the company is facing issues related to the price of RAM and SSDs. “It’s like, literally, we’ve never had it like this.”
“It kind of ruins all of your projections that you had about it,” he explained. “Normally, you know the curves, and you can protect the hardware. It’s gonna be an interesting one. It means that most likely, we already need to do a lot of optimization work in early access that we didn’t necessarily want to do at that point in time.”
This way, players won’t be forced to buy new SSDs or RAM to play Divinity from the start of Early Access.
The main issue, even for big game studios, is that AI-focused companies are consuming much of the available tech resources, causing component prices like RAM to rise. Developers must take this into account while designing their games.
In related news, Swen Vincke has confirmed that the Divinity Engine 4.0, used for Baldur’s Gate 3, reached its limits during the game’s development and that a brand new, proprietary engine is being built for Divinity.
