Larian Studios Comments on Baldur’s Gate 3 Coming to Nintendo Switch 2
Could Baldur’s Gate 3 also arrive on Nintendo Switch 2? The question came up during a Q&A session held by Larian Studios, but the answer from the studio’s CEO, Swen Vincke, might not please everyone.
“We would have loved to, but it wasn’t our decision to make,” Vincke said. He didn’t go into detail, but it seems that Hasbro and Wizards of the Coast, who own the franchise, opposed the idea.
Still, this may not be the final word. Even though Larian Studios isn’t currently involved, the franchise owners could decide to hand the porting project to another developer — something that happens quite often in the gaming industry.
The Possibilities of a Switch 2 Version
If Baldur’s Gate 3 were to come to Nintendo’s next console, it could take advantage of its special features — for example, the Joy-Con’s mouse mode and, of course, the system’s portability.
The idea of a portable version of such a massive RPG is exciting for fans, especially those who love playing on the go. However, adapting such a large and detailed game to the new hybrid console would require a lot of technical adjustments.
Baldur’s Gate 3 is not just a popular game; it’s a huge, complex experience — so much so that it even inspired the ending of Stranger Things. Because of its size and complexity, bringing it to Nintendo Switch 2 might not be easy.
Vincke didn’t comment on the technical challenges, but it’s clear that this would be a demanding project. Still, there is hope that the game could reach the new console one day — maybe thanks to another studio taking care of the adaptation, while Larian focuses on its next ambitious project, Divinity.
