Lenovo Launch 2 new budget-level tablets building on their Tab 7 Branding

Purchasing a tablet, particularly on a budget, can be tricky. Below £100 it can be a minefield of looking great, but performing awfully. While there are a lot of tablets for below £40, realistically, if you’re after one that would actually be pleasurable to use, usually the price range is £50-£100. This is a bracket that Lenovo generally tend to fill with their Tab 7 products and do so very well.

It certainly beats the spyware they filled their laptops with.

Owning the (now) prior model of the Tab 7, I can confirm that they are a nice product. Well built and practically bulletproof it does everything I want it to do at a more than acceptable level of performance.

Via their official website, Lenovo has launched their latest update to the Tab 7 range with the Tab 7 and less expensive Tab 7 Essential.

Price and Specification

The standard Tab 7 comes with the following:

• 7 Inch Screen
• 1280 x 720 screen resolution.
• MediaTek MT8161 Chipset
• Quad-Core CPU
• 1GB Ram
• 16GB Storage (with SD expansion)
• 5mp front camera and 2mp rear.
• Android Operating System

This model will be retailing at $99.99

The ‘Essential’ model is practically the same, except with a slightly lower resolution (1024 x 600) and a different chipset (MT8167D). Retailing at $79.99 I would say that either option would be worth it. I can see the gains spending the extra but at the time enough of a ‘who cares’ factor to go for the less expensive alternative.

Having recently purchased a majority of Fujitsu’s PC component manufacturing, Lenovo has become over recent years a solid brand.

My Verdict – I can’t praise my Tab 7 enough. When I bought it for £70 it was to replace a Windows tablet which had barely lasted a year). Since then, my Tab 7 has been excellent for both video playing, data transfer, photographs and general apps. While it doesn’t have all the bells and whistles of an Apple iPad, it does everything you would want an inexpensive tablet to do and in my opinion is better than some of the slightly more expensive alternatives.

For under £100, you will struggle to find a better tablet and the bonus is, this is genuinely a quality product.
