Leon and Grace Are Complete Opposites in Resident Evil Requiem
The director of Resident Evil Requiem, Koji Nakanishi, explained in an interview with Famitsu that Leon Kennedy and Grace Ashcroft are two completely opposite figures, extremely different from one another.
“Grace is the most fearful person in the history of Resident Evil, and Leon is the strongest,” said Nakanishi. “I think one of the highlights will be seeing how these two contrasting characters interact.”
A New Dynamic Between Two Opposing Heroes
“We’ve crafted it to bring out the best in the contrasting characters of Leon and Grace. It’s a gameplay experience unlike anything in the Resident Evil series before, so I hope you’ll give it a try,” continued Nakanishi.
Capcom’s goal is to build the experience around two extremes — on one side, fragility, constant fear, and insecurity; on the other, courage, experience, and the strength of someone who has already faced horror many times before.
Resident Evil Requiem officially confirmed the return of Leon in a trailer revealed during The Game Awards, putting an end to long-standing rumors about his comeback after the events of Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil 4, and Resident Evil 6.
Beyond the contrast between Leon and Grace, it’s clear that with this move, Capcom aims to bring the best of both worlds into the new chapter — combining a legendary figure from the classic episodes with a brand-new character continuing the direction started with Resident Evil 7: Biohazard.
