Lexar Launches THOR II RGB DDR5 Gen 2 Memory With Chinese DRAM Chips and Speeds Up to 7,200 MT/s
Lexar has officially introduced its second-generation THOR II RGB DDR5 memory kits, following earlier reports about modules using new DRAM from a Chinese manufacturer.
The new kit includes two 16 GB memory modules, giving a total of 32 GB. These modules are made for the Chinese market and offer speeds of up to 7,200 MT/s. While the company has not confirmed the chip maker, the DRAM is produced by an unnamed Chinese manufacturer that is believed to be CXMT.
Lexar Unveils THOR II RGB DDR5 Gen 2 RAM With Chinese DRAM Chips
The new Lexar THOR II RGB DDR5 Gen 2 memory supports both Intel XMP 3.0 and AMD EXPO profiles. The modules use a sandblasted aluminum heat spreader that hides the identity of the DRAM chips. Lexar had already shown these memory kits running on MSI and ASUS motherboards at speeds of up to 7,600 MT/s, proving compatibility with both brands.
The memory comes with CAS latency 38-48-48-86 and runs at 1.4V. Although Lexar has not shared any official overclocking range, these DRAM chips have already been seen running at speeds of up to 8,400 MT/s, while the THOR II RGB DDR5 Gen 2 modules themselves have been demonstrated at 7,600 MT/s.
For now, the new memory kits will only be sold in China. They are listed on JD.com for 3,999 yuan for the 32 GB 7,200 MT/s kit, which is roughly $592. At the moment, Lexar has not announced plans to release these memory kits outside the Chinese market.
