Lian Li Launches New RB Series PSUs: Bronze Efficiency Meets Modern Cable Management
Lian Li has just unveiled its new RB Series of power supply units (PSUs), aiming to bring a blend of 80 Plus Bronze efficiency and next-gen features to the entry-level market. These new units focus heavily on making the build process easier, offering a clever approach to cable management that should make PC builders’ lives much simpler.
The Lian Li RB Series
The RB Series comes in three flavours: 550W, 650W, and 750W, offering options for a variety of mainstream builds. While they carry the 80 Plus Bronze rating, they’re packing some surprisingly modern features that are usually reserved for more expensive models.
Advanced Cable Management with Semi-Modular Flexibility
Lian Li has put a unique spin on cable management right into the PSU housing itself. The RB Series features an integrated cable groove on one side and Velcro straps on the other three sides. This allows users to neatly secure any excess cables along the PSU’s body, which should go a long way in reducing case clutter and improving overall airflow.
The units also sport a semi-modular design, meaning only the absolutely essential power cables are permanently attached. You can then connect your SATA and peripheral cables as needed, offering flexibility for a clean and efficient system without unnecessary wiring.
Modern Power Delivery for Next-Gen Hardware
Despite the Bronze rating, the RB Series is fully compliant with the Intel ATX 3.1 standard, ensuring compatibility with both current and future PC systems.
Crucially, the 650W and 750W models both feature a native PCIe Gen 5.1 12V-2×6 (12+4-pin) connector, which is capable of delivering up to 450W to hungry modern graphics cards. The top-tier 750W PSU goes a step further by including an extra 12V-2×6 to PCIe 6+2-pin cable. This is a great addition, as it provides reliable support for multiple devices or high-end AMD graphics cards that often require three PCIe 6+2-pin connectors.
For stable power, they use a high-amperage single +12V rail and a DC-to-DC conversion design to enhance voltage regulation, power efficiency, and reduce electrical noise.
Quiet Cooling and Certified Efficiency
To keep noise down, the RB Series uses a 135mm fluid dynamic bearing (FDB) fan. Lian Li states that the fan operates quietly, running between 33.2 dBA to 40.1 dBA depending on the model, even under full load.
The 80 Plus Bronze certification means they can achieve up to 85% efficiency, which helps reduce wasted power and heat output inside your case. The units are also built for reliability, supporting continuous full-load operation at ambient temperatures up to 40°C and featuring a full suite of built-in protections: OPP, OVP, SCP, OCP, UVP, and OTP.
Key features of the RB Series:
- 80 Plus Bronze Certified
- Unique built-in cable management groove and Velcro straps
- Semi-Modular design
- Intel ATX 3.1 Compliant
- Native 12V-2×6 (12+4-pin) connector on 650W/750W models (450W)
- 135mm Fluid Dynamic Bearing (FDB) fan
- Single +12V rail and DC-to-DC conversion
What We Think
The Lian Li RB Series is clearly targeting the budget and mid-range build market, but they’ve done a commendable job of including features that make them feel like a premium product. The inclusion of the native 12V-2×6 connector on the 650W and 750W models is a huge win for future-proofing, and the integrated cable management is a genuinely smart idea that will be a massive benefit for newer builders. Given the competitive pricing, these look like a very strong option for anyone putting together a new mainstream PC.
