Whether or not Carrie Fisher as Princess Leia will make an appearance in Star Wars Episode IX has been the topic of debate between Star Wars fans over for several months ever since she passed away. First, many were wondering how her death would affect the story since she was slated to appear on all three before her untimely death. Second, if she was going to appear, many fans thought that it would be disrespectful if she was integrated via CG, which LucasFilm promised they would never do. Although last week, Todd Fisher, Carrie’s brother has announced that he and her daughter Billie Lourd have given express permission to LucasFilm to use her likeness and continue on with the film in Episode IX.
LucasFilm president Kathleen Kennedy however has finally given the last word that Carrie Fisher will not appear in Episode IX despite what Todd Fisher says and against the hopes of many fans. IN an interview with Good Morning America, Kennedy dismissed Todd Fisher’s statement by saying that “He was probably confused,” about the arrangement.
“We finished everything in VIII, and Carrie is absolutely phenomenal in the movie, and we’re so happy that we were able to complete shooting in the summer. Unfortunately, Carrie passed away, and so by the time we were well underway with Episode IX in our thoughts, we had not written the script yet. But we’ve regrouped. We started over again in January. So, sadly, Carrie will not be in IX. But we’ll see a lot of her in VIII, which is great.”
