MadCatz R.A.T. TE (Tournament Edition) Gaming Mouse Review

A Closer Look

The R.A.T. TE bares many of the style points of the rest of the R.A.T. series mice, but that doesn’t make it any less impressive to look at. Down the left side you will find a large “L” shaped wing that acts as a thumb rest.

The left side of the mouse hosts three programmable switches; the two usual back/forward switches and a sniper button that can be used to quickly drop your DPI for accurate aiming.

The right side of the mouse features another curved panel, with a textured surface to provide extra grip while gaming; it’s also slightly recessed under the top panel of the mouse, giving a good finger resting position for claw grip play-styles.

The front top of the mouse features a notched scroll-wheel with a bumpy rubber coating for maximum control. Behind the wheel you’ll find another programmable switch and another on the raised wing section to the left of LMB.

The mouse features a red underside that looks like the front diffuser of a sports car.

Around the back you can better see how the mouse is made of up multiple panels, the top front, top back, left and right side panels are all separated from each other and mounted on the inner frame; this is what gives them their unique overlapping design.

The back panel is mounted on an adjustable rail; push in the lever on the back right hand side and you can slide the top panel back and forth.

It can be extended pretty far, giving a lot of adjustment room to tailor the mouse to your play style and hand size.

On the left side you’ll also notice four LED indicators, these let you know which DPI setting is selected. The red wire just above the side buttons is simply there to look cool.

The underside of the mouse is made from frosted red plastic, which certainly stands out. There are five small PTFE pads on the base of the mouse, more than enough to provide a good level of glide.

Under the protective sticker you’ll find the new Phillips Doppler laser sensor.
