MadCatz R.A.T. TE (Tournament Edition) Gaming Mouse Review

Final Thoughts

Price

Prices for the MadCatz R.A.T. TE vary wildly from store to store, but a little Google-fu will find you one from a major retailer for under £55, just be careful as some retailers are selling them for more than £70! One thing is for certain, this mouse is incredibly good value for money; it’s packed with features that more than justify the price tag.

Overview

MadCatz have made great progress in the world of gaming mice over the last couple of years and their R.A.T. series has become a very popular choice among gamers. Their new R.A.T. TE may very well be the best mouse they’ve made so far and that’s thanks in no small part to the new Doppler sensor. The sensor is incredible, it tracks perfectly across the full DPI range, it has no angle snapping, no acceleration problems, a configurable lift-off height and it automatically configures and adjusts its self to the surface you’re using it on. This is the first time the Doppler sensor has been featured in a mouse and I expect that it won’t be the last.

The ergonomics of this mouse are familiar territory for anyone who has used a MadCatz mouse before, but they may take a bit of getting used to for newcomers. The mouse may be adjustable at the back, but lacks some of the extra adjustments found in other MadCatz R.A.T. mice. The low and wide design does provide you with plenty of grip and control and the ultra lightweight design makes it a joy to use; even after many hours of gaming and working.

The design looks really cool and MadCatz certainly create some of the more unique looking gaming mice on the market. Build quality is surprisingly good and I have no doubt that the mouse will survive a few knocks and bumps; despite the fact that it’s made from lightweight plastics panels.

Features are everywhere on this mouse; such as the excellent software, the programmable buttons, sniper button, configurable sensor, braided cable, adjustable size and more! Easily one of the best feature sets within this price range; certainly more than enough to keep serious eSports gamers and general day-to-day users happy.

Pros

  • Legendary sensor performance
  • Easy to use software
  • Stylish design
  • Adjustable size
  • Lightweight
  • Competitive price

Cons

  • Ergonomics may not be ideal for those with smaller hands

“MadCatz have really outdone themselves with the R.A.T. TE, it still has the unique R.A.T. design, their new Doppler laser sensor is one of the simply the best I’ve ever used and its premium performance comes at a mid-budget price!”
