Mafia: The Old Country Priced Lower to Reach a Larger Audience, Says Take-Two CEO
Take-Two Interactive, the parent company of Rockstar Games, has recently addressed the topic of game pricing during a meeting with investors. While rumors about the price of Grand Theft Auto VI are growing, the company has shared insights into how it sets prices, especially for its upcoming game Mafia: The Old Country.
Some fans speculate that GTA VI might cost up to $100 when it launches, but CEO Strauss Zelnick clarified that the company aims to offer players good value for their money. This is the reason why Mafia: The Old Country will cost $49.99.
Lower Price to Attract More Players
Zelnick explained that the goal is to provide players with much more value than what they pay. The focus is not on charging the highest price but on ensuring player satisfaction. He also pointed out that the video game industry has always had different pricing strategies, and there is no one-size-fits-all price for games. The final price of GTA VI will be decided by Rockstar, as Zelnick mentioned. Each brand under Take-Two, including 2K, sets its own prices.
Zelnick further explained that Mafia: The Old Country will be priced at $49.99, a decision made to reach a larger number of players. The developer, Hangar 13, knows it has been nearly eight years since the release of Mafia 3 and doesn’t want to miss the chance to bring the series back. By setting a lower price, they hope to attract a wider audience.
Zelnick believes the price-to-value ratio will appeal to players, and it might even encourage hesitant players to try the game.
Mafia: The Old Country will be available on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC starting August 8.
