Man Arrested For Reselling 200 Consoles That Were Set For Delivery!

With games consoles in such short supply at the moment, it’s not surprising to see that they have quite a significant value above their supposed MSRP. With Christmas approaching fast, however, many consumers are absolutely desperate to find a PS5, Xbox Series X/S, a Nintendo Switch. Hell, anything! – It seems that following a report via ‘tv-asahi‘, however, one man in Tokyo simply couldn’t resist the temptation to turn a quick buck through the current craze. – How did he do it? Well, by reselling around 200 consoles that were supposed to be out for delivery to their actual owners!

Toyko Man Arrested for Reselling Sold Consoles!

Now, as you might expect, the story is a little complicated as it is, quite frankly, bizarre. The circumstances of this man’s arrest are though perhaps not what you might have initially been thinking. Particularly when compared to news stories we saw in the UK last year. – No, this individual was not stealing packages he was supposed to deliver himself. It’s way odder than that!

Instead, a delivery driver friend of his asked him to temporarily look after a bunch of gaming consoles he was scheduled to dispatch to their actual owners. Although no details have been given, the presumption is that this legitimate delivery driver friend had nowhere safe to keep them. And, as such, asked his (so-called) friend to look after them while he attempted to take what he could at the time to their owners.

Instead of actually watching over this haul, however, the man in question, within the same day, visited a whole host of local stores selling as many of the systems as he could. This included PS5’s, Xbox’s, and Nintendo Switches!

It’s understood that by the time he was done, he’d successfully managed to offload around 200 consoles ‘earning’ himself around $26,000. – As you might have guessed though, it didn’t take long for him to get rumbled!

Internet Cafe – The Not So Ultimate Hideout

While it is unclear as to exactly how long he evaded authorities, it’s understood that he spent his time (and ill-gotten gains) both living and gambling within an internet cafe (in Japan, many internet cafes offer overnight pods, which, in a bizarre sense in the west, allows for long-term occupation).

Upon his arrest, the 50-year-old man revealed that he’d sold the consoles largely to both pay and fund his gambling addiction. With all the money apparently blown now, however, he’s clearly in a lot of trouble. And quite possibly his friend too who clearly made a very poor choice in asking him to supervise his delivery shipments. And yes, I am presuming that the delivery driver wasn’t in on this and seemingly got screwed out of his cut.

Let’s just hope though that the consoles can be recovered, or at least replaced, so their actual owners might have a chance to play them before the end of the year!
