Donald Trump. I fail to recall a political figure in recent years who have been more devices of opinion. America’s Marmite, you either love him or you hate him.
Gaining some notoriety with his Twitter posts, you may recall last month that his account was temporarily deleted. Officially removed for just over 11 minutes the report was initially credited to a former employee.
The narrative went that a former-employee decided, in a blaze of glory, to delete Donald Trump’s twitter account before walking out. It certainly had a degree of poetry to it and captured the imagination of those of us who have fancied quitting in similar style.
Well, in a report via the Guardian, it turns out that the story may have been greater than the reality. A German man has stepped forward to claim responsibility for the deletion but insists it was an accident.
Bahtiyar Duysa, who used to work for Twitter in German insists the deletion of the account was an accident. He has even gone so far as to say he actually ‘likes’ Donald Trump a little.
Dismissing any talk of ‘grandstanding on his last day’ Mr Duysa said: “It was in front of me, and I didn’t do a good job, and I didn’t double-check things.”
Now, the cynic in me doesn’t necessarily believe this. What I think happened is that Twitter caught up with him and rather than getting in any hot water, he decided that admitting it as a mistake might be a better choice than saying he did it on purpose.
As above, the Presidents account was quickly restored which is just as well given that Donald Trump credits Twitter significantly for his presidency.
So, what do you think? Was the deletion on purpose or not? – Let us know in the comments!
