Marathon Starts Strong on Steam, Over 140,000 Concurrent Players During Server Slam
For those who expected or hoped for negative numbers similar to Concord, Marathon appears to have launched on the right foot on Steam thanks to the Server Slam event that began a few hours ago and will continue throughout the weekend.
According to SteamDB data, since the servers opened, Bungie’s extraction shooter reached a peak of 143,621 concurrent players. These are not record-breaking numbers, but they are still solid results, especially considering the skepticism that has surrounded the project in recent months.
Positive Early Numbers, But It Is Only the Beginning
Player numbers may increase over the next few days, especially during the weekend when more people have free time to play. They could also rise if players share positive opinions about the game. Meanwhile, on Steam, the game has already climbed to third place among the top-selling and highest-grossing titles, just behind Resident Evil Requiem and the long-standing Counter-Strike 2.
It is important to put these figures into context. These are encouraging signs in the first hours of the Server Slam, but they do not guarantee long-term success. The situation could change quickly in the coming days, either positively or negatively, depending on player feedback on PC, PS5, and Xbox, as well as the game’s ability to keep attention high on Twitch over the weekend.
The real test will arrive with the launch of the full version and Season 1 of Marathon, scheduled for March 5. Only then will it become clear whether the strong start during the Server Slam can turn into lasting success.
