Mass Effect 5 Is Alive and Well, BioWare Confirms Development Continues

Mass Effect 5

Today is N7 Day, the annual celebration dedicated to the Mass Effect saga. This year, BioWare decided to reassure fans that the next chapter in the series is still in development and has not been canceled.

Fans’ concerns are understandable. In recent years, information about the project has been extremely scarce, while the failure of Dragon Age: The Veilguard, the wave of layoffs that followed, and recent rumors about EA possibly shutting down the studio have raised several alarms. Because of this, Mike Gamble, the executive producer of the series, felt the need to send out a clear and comforting message: Mass Effect 5 is alive and well.

“Like you, we’ve heard the rumors lately. You’ve made it clear you care deeply about what’s next,” said Gamble in a post published on BioWare’s official website. “SoSo let’s start by setting the record straight: the next Mass Effect game is in development, and EA and BioWare remain committed to telling more stories in this universe.”

Gamble emphasized that the team is currently focused entirely on the new Mass Effect, working with great enthusiasm and many ideas. However, it’s still too early to show anything to the public.

“The truth is, the last few years have been an incredibly busy time at BioWare. But currently, the team is heads-down and focused exclusively on Mass Effect. We have a lot of universe to cover, lots of features to build, and lots of romances to figure out. We’re excited by what we’re building, and we promise you: when we’re ready, it’ll be a lot of fun to show. Until then, thank you for your patience because y’all are thirsty for news and I see you looking for secret meaning in my tweets (okay, sometimes they have secret meaning),” Gamble explained.

Amazon’s Mass Effect TV Series Is Also Coming

Fans will need a bit more patience. In the meantime, Gamble reminded everyone that Amazon’s Mass Effect TV series is also in the works and will tell an original story, separate from Commander Shepard’s journey.
