Microsoft Adds an Internet Speed Test to the Windows 11 Taskbar
The latest preview build of Windows 11, which is not yet available to the general public, introduces a new feature in the taskbar: a fully integrated internet speed test. This removes the need to use third-party tools to check your connection speed.
Microsoft describes it as a built-in test available from the taskbar. Users can access it through the Wi-Fi or mobile connection settings, or by right-clicking the new icon located in the system tray on the right side of the taskbar, near the date and time.
When launched, the test opens your default browser and measures your internet speed, whether you are connected by cable, Wi-Fi, or mobile data. It can also help detect possible errors or connection issues and assist in fixing them.
Taskbar Improvements in Windows 11
In addition to the new speed test, Microsoft has confirmed other improvements to the taskbar. When the taskbar is set to “no combine,” and an app is open in multiple windows, they will no longer all move into a single block when space runs out. Instead, only the windows that do not fit will move, making better use of available space.
Microsoft is clearly taking steps to improve the Windows 11 taskbar, which has been one of the most important and most criticized parts of the operating system. The company may also bring back the option to move the taskbar and place it in different positions, not just at the bottom of the screen.
All of these new features could arrive in the next major Windows 11 update, known as 26H2. This update is expected to launch later this year, between October and November.
If confirmed, these changes would show that Microsoft is listening to user feedback and working to improve everyday features in Windows 11.
