Microsoft Apologizes for Confusion Over 1080p/60fps Witcher 3 Footage on Xbox

Microsoft Xbox YouTube channel published a stunning new video for the upcoming game The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. Since the video was published to the Xbox one channel, one would assume the video was captured on the Xbox version of the game.

It has since then been discovered by Kotaku that the gameplay is not actually the Xbox version despite the logo being displayed all through the video. They said the following:

“this is actually footage from the (presumably better-looking) PC version of the game. The easiest way to tell? You can run the YouTube video at 60 frames-per-second; the developers of The Witcher 3 (out May 19 for PS4/XB1/PC) have specified that the console versions are actually locked at 30 FPS.”

A representative for developer CD Projekt Red confirmed to Kotaku this morning that this footage is indeed from the PC version.”

Another website, this time Gamespot, spoke to Microsoft this afternoon and got the following response:

“This morning we posted a new trailer for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt to our YouTube channels featuring footage provided by CD Projekt Red that was captured from the PC version of the game and may not be reflective of final Xbox One gameplay,” the spokesperson said. “This was in no way intended to misrepresent the title on Xbox One. We have updated the description of the asset to make clear the source and platform of this footage. We apologize for any confusion and look forward to the game arriving on both Xbox One and PC on May 19, 2015.”

As a PC Gamer I’m rather looking forward to the release of the game now, however, the game does look good across all of the platforms that it runs on. What are your thoughts on this? Are you looking forward to the release?

Thank you to Gamespot and Kotaku for providing us with this information
