Consumer Reports Warns About Microsoft Surface Reliability

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella tells iPad owners to ‘get a real computer’

You remember those adverts that Apple did about 10 years ago? The ‘I’m a PC and I’m a MAC’ ones? They acted as a spark to the whole powderkeg argument of Microsoft vs Apple.

Apple claimed it was impervious to viruses while Microsoft was able to constantly ask Apple ‘where are the games?’. The short version is that they were both kinda right and both kinda wrong. Reports over the years clearly indicate that Apple systems are not immune to infections. Personally, I just think the vast majority of people who make viruses don’t bother with it. In addition, the App store has in recent years provided their users with more games than they could ever wish for.

Since the advert campaign, things settled into an uneasy alliance. The fact is that most people these days own a PC and an Apple product.

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, however, seems intent on bringing fresh life to the argument. Shots have been fired with him suggesting that any iPad owners should ‘get a real PC’. Shots fired indeed!

We don’t need another brand war!

We really don’t need another brand war. Those of us with an ounce of common sense knew the facts that PC’s are great for certain tasks and Apple products are better at others. I can’t, in addition, help spot the irony that Microsofts attempt to supplant the iPad for tablets has (more or less) failed miserably. The report via CNET, however, would suggest that Microsoft isn’t backing down quietly.

In what was likely a joke comment, he did go on to say: “I don’t want to take away from whatever success Apple or Google are having. We are very different companies. We are not some middleman in the marketplace. We are a tool creator, we are not a luxury good manufacturer. That’s not who we are. We are about creating technologies so that others can build.”

The comments likely come on the back of the announcement of Apple’s intention to release an iPad X.

The bottom line is though that his comments will most likely fall on deaf ears. We’ve all moved beyond that now… haven’t we?
