Just earlier today we brought you the news that Sony would be offering up a big press conference at this years Gamescom event. Now we hear that Microsoft will be joining them, the Microsoft Showcase Event at Gamescom 2013 will take place on August 20th, the very same day as the Sony event and it will be interesting to find out what time the show is booked for, as Microsoft haven’t stated what the start time is we have no idea if it will conflict with the Sony event, which begins at 6pm local time.
Microsoft’s Marc Whitten, corporate vice president of Xbox, said that they will discuss specifics of the company’s self-publishing policies for the Xbox One, a topic that has been somewhat of a next-gen battleground ever since the consoles were announced.
Microsoft corporate vice presidents Phil Spencer and Phil Harrison will be co-hosting the event at Dock One in Cologne, Germany. Earlier this week, Marc Whitten, corporate vice president of Xbox, said that the company would have “more details” about the Xbox One’s self-publishing capabilities to share at Gamescom.
This is an interesting development either way as Microsoft opted out of Gamescom last year, although in fairness they had little new to push on consumers that couldn’t be done by individual publishers and developers.
