Despite the widespread recognition that Microsoft really needs a smaller Surface tablet to capture that 7-8 inch tablet market TechCrunch reports that Microsoft has no immediate plans to release an 8 inch tablet aka Surface Mini. We will apparently see “smaller” Surfaces in terms of the device’s thickness but the screen sizes will be kept the same.
Microsoft will unveil these new Surface 2.0 tablets at a press event in New York City on September 23rd. The second generation Surface Pro is expected to ship with the revised Windows 8.1 operating system, have an Intel Core i5 processor and 8GB of RAM. In terms of the Surface RT we should expect to see the revised Windows 8.1 RT operating system, an Nvidia Tegra 4 SoC (CPU/GPU combo) and 4GB of RAM.
Expect more details to arrive in the run up to the September 23rd press event.
