Microsoft Hints at a New Dev Direct in January with Xbox Announcements for the Year
Microsoft and Xbox had a limited presence at this year’s Game Awards, despite releasing many titles in 2025. However, in January 2026, a new Dev Direct will take place, where the Redmond-based company will showcase all its gaming updates for the year.
This news was not shared by just anyone — it came directly from Matt Booty, Microsoft’s President of Game Content and Studios, during an interview with Variety.
Many Announcements on the Way — Including Fable
“I can’t share exactly what’s there, but we’ve got a lot of stuff that we’re shipping next year,” Booty said, keeping the details vague. “In fact, usually Dev Direct is about highlighting what’s coming up for the year ahead. This year, we’ve got more stuff coming up than we can fit in one show,” he added — hinting at a wealth of announcements and possibly multiple events ahead.
When it came to content, Booty didn’t reveal much, but he did share an exciting teaser about one of the studios involved: “So I will tell you that Playground Games [the developer behind the “Fable” and “Forza Horizon 6″ games] is going to be in the Dev Direct, but we’ll have more stuff next year to ship than we can fit into one Dev Direct show in January, which is a good place to be.”
Playground Games is currently working on the highly anticipated Fable action RPG and Forza Horizon 6.
Other possible games that might make an appearance include Clockwork Revolution by inXile and Halo: Campaign Evolved, among others. We’ll have to wait and see what surprises Xbox has in store.
