There is now less than a year to go until support ends for one of Microsoft‘s most popular operating systems, Windows 10. The Redmond giant will end support for this operating system in October of next year, with the possibility for companies that do not want to migrate to the most recent Windows 11, to pay to continue getting security updates on Windows 10. A function that also seems to be coming to home users for the first time.
If you’re happy with Windows 10 and don’t want to look for an alternative, Microsoft offers the option to continue receiving security updates for a fee of $30 per year. This fee will entitle you to security patches for Windows 10, but it doesn’t include new updates with improvements or new features. However, Microsoft recommends that you upgrade to Windows 11 to get better features and continue to receive the latest security updates.
This program will be launched later, in 2025, and will offer Microsoft Defender Antivirus security updates at least until 2028. These updates will at least offer 3 more years for those users reluctant to update their operating system, during which time they will have to end up switching to Windows 11 or continue with Windows 10 without these updates, although they can also opt for third-party solutions to continue receiving updates.
