Microsoft Reportedly Delays New Surface Pro and Laptop Releases
Microsoft’s new Surface Pro and Surface Laptop lineup appears to have faced a delay in its 2026 release schedule.
According to recent reports based on leaks from reliable sources such as Roland Quandt, the next generation of Surface devices—likely the Surface Pro 12 and Surface Laptop 8—has been pushed back by about one month from the expected timeline.
Microsoft Reportedly Delays Surface Pro 12 and Surface Laptop 8 Launch by One Month
Although Microsoft had not officially announced a release date, analysts expected the new Intel-based models to arrive in spring. However, the updated roadmap suggests that versions powered by Intel Panther Lake processors could be delayed until later in the summer, possibly around July.
Roland Quandt commented on the situation, saying, “So it looks like Surface got pushed out by about a month. Wonder why that is. Shouldn’t matter as the prices are probably going to be so bad, noone will be able to afford the things anyways…. #microslop”
This delay does not only affect x86 models. Versions using ARM architecture, expected to feature Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X2 chip, also appear to be delayed, with availability now estimated between July and September 2026. It is believed that supply issues with these new Qualcomm chipsets could be one of the main reasons for the delay.
Beyond the delay, leaks point to some hardware improvements. The new Surface Laptop 8 is expected to include OLED displays across the lineup, a feature that would help Microsoft compete with Apple and Samsung. There are also rumors of more compact models, including a 12-inch Surface Pro and a 13-inch Surface Laptop.
However, not all the news is positive. Roland Quandt has suggested that launch prices could be disappointing, indicating possible price increases compared to previous generations.
