Microsoft Reveals Next-Generation Xbox Console With Codename Project Helix
The next generation of consoles may still seem far away. There are still ongoing issues with RAM supply, and many players feel that the current console generation has not yet reached its full potential. Several new games are still releasing on older systems like the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
However, this does not mean that companies are not already working on the future. Microsoft has now announced the next generation of Xbox consoles, which currently carries the codename Project Helix.
Project Helix Teased as the Future of Xbox
The official Xbox account shared a short teaser video showing the logo of Project Helix. The logo has the shape of a spiral or a DNA helix, which is likely the inspiration for the codename.
At the moment, the teaser does not reveal many details. What it does confirm is that the new platform will allow players to run both Xbox titles and PC games.
Since the console is still far from release, it is not surprising that Microsoft has not yet revealed more information. Still, the timing of the announcement is interesting, as it comes shortly after major leadership changes at Xbox.
Phil Spencer has retired, and Sarah Bond has also left the company. The new CEO, Asha Sharma, has taken charge and is promising a new direction for Xbox, starting with its console hardware.
On social media, Sharma wrote: “Great start to the morning with Team Xbox, where we talked about our commitment to the return of Xbox including Project Helix, the code name for our next generation console.”
She also confirmed that the new console will focus heavily on performance and flexibility. “Project Helix will lead in performance and play your Xbox and PC games. Looking forward to chatting about this more with partners and studios at my first GDC next week!”
For now, many questions remain about what Project Helix will actually be. Some people even believe that the next Xbox could struggle because of the impact of Game Pass. Still, Microsoft’s message is clear: the company is already preparing the next chapter for Xbox.
