Microsoft Sets Monthly Xbox Cloud Gaming Limits, Even for Game Pass Ultimate Users
Microsoft’s latest announcement is not making players who enjoyed being able to play their games through streaming happy. The Redmond giant has confirmed that its Xbox Cloud Gaming service will be heavily limited, regardless of the type of active Game Pass subscription.
According to the new rules, players with an active Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription will not be able to play for more than 15 hours per month. With Xbox Game Pass Premium, the limit drops to 10 hours, while the Essential subscription will have a limit of 5 hours. It also appears that once the limit is reached, it will be possible to buy extra gaming hours from the store, but there is no information about the prices of these extra packages.
How Long You Can Play Xbox Cloud Gaming With Each Game Pass Subscription
To sum up, these are the new limits:
- Xbox Game Pass Ultimate: 15 hours per month
- Xbox Game Pass Premium: 10 hours per month
- Xbox Game Pass Essential: 5 hours per month
Microsoft has explained this major change to its cloud streaming service by pointing to the rising costs of servers. The company also said that these changes should affect only 4% of all subscribers.
In other words, according to the company, only this small percentage of players uses Xbox Cloud Gaming enough to go beyond the new limits. These changes will not take effect immediately, but will be introduced for players starting in November 2026.
At this point, there is still a big question about how the Redmond giant will manage the much-discussed free tier with ads. It cannot be ruled out that, over time, Asha Sharma has decided to rethink the strategy for cloud gaming and remove this feature completely. In any case, we will probably get clearer answers on the matter in the coming days.
