BGR reports that Microsoft is gearing up to release its Surface Mini tablet this year. The tablet will be an 8 inch form factor version of Microsoft’s Surface series of tablets and will ship with Windows RT 8.1 and a Qualcomm ARM processor. WinSuperSite reports that the Surface Mini won’t be launched until later on this year while the Associated Press reports that Microsoft will launch the tablet later on today at it’s Surface 2 reveal press conference in New York City.
Whenever the tablet launches we are now pretty certain that it exists. Of course with the 8 inch form factor the Surface Mini will be competing with other similarly sized tablets like the Nexus 7 from Google and ASUS, the Kindle Fire HD from Amazon and the iPad Mini from Apple. Of course with exception to the iPad Mini all these tablets are priced very competitively so Microsoft will have a hard time shifting any of these Surface Mini tablets unless it can match Amazon and Google on value for money.
More details are expected soon.
