Will the Fall Creators Update Tempt Game Developers?

Microsoft has certainly been pushing the boat out with their creators updates this year. Earlier this year we were able to update to the Spring creators update which included an overhaul of Windows 10. Part of that was the introduction of a specific gaming mode, although Microsoft would prefer it if you ignored that initial release these days.

Microsoft, in its most recent Fall Creators Update has, however, attempted to get some of the PC developers interested in the Xbox One platform. They intend to do this by making more resources available to them via the UWP developing tools.

UWP is a critical and popular piece of development software. It specifically allowed development for Microsoft products.  UWP was, however, exceptionally limited when it came to the Xbox One. Basically speaking, UWP restrictions limited users to only 1gb of ram usage and only half of the GPU which when compared to competing products such as XDK, fell massively behind.

Well, Microsoft has, in an effort to get more PC developers to work on Xbox One opened the memory and core floodgates.

Why has Microsoft only just decided to do this now?

It is Microsoft’s hope to blur the lines between console and PC gaming reports MSpowerUser. In the last year they have introduced a new gaming scheme. The intention was that you could own and play, the same game, on both PC and Xbox platforms. With the games ideally being sold in the Windows store, they could be accessible to the user on whichever platform they preferred.

This hasn’t exactly been an initial booming success for Windows. Put simply they are really struggling for content. Therefore, the expansion of the potential of UWP to the Xbox One could see a surge in PC games also getting a Xbox one release.

This change will surely have a significant impact. From a game developers stand point, one would hope that making a decent product is the major focus. However, having access to a whole other market is too good an opportunity to ignore.

It should be noted, however, that when possible, game developers will always find someone to blame for any delays/short-comings.

Do you think this will make any difference or was Microsoft a bit too late to address this? Let us know in the comments!
