Microsoft to Close Some Xbox Divisions in Europe
As we reported, according to a Bloomberg report written by Jason Schreier, Microsoft is about to execute a series of large-scale layoffs that will also involve its gaming division, Xbox.
The information had already been anticipated by journalist Tom Warren, who, after Bloomberg’s confirmation, provided an additional detail from his own sources: Xbox is specifically restructuring within Central Europe.
Xbox’s Restructuring Impact in Central Europe
According to The Verge, this European restructuring will have a massive impact, as some Xbox operations will end in certain European regions.
Typically, Central Europe refers to countries like Germany, Poland, the Czech Republic, Switzerland, Austria, and others. Italy is considered part of Southern Europe, so it may not be as severely affected by layoffs.
Unfortunately, The Verge does not clarify which operations could be halted: this may involve marketing or the physical distribution of video games. However, we don’t believe Microsoft will abandon some markets entirely.
What Does This Mean for Xbox’s Presence in Europe?
As of now, it is still unclear what specific operations will be cut. It could range from reducing the marketing presence to scaling down the distribution of physical copies of games, but there are no signs of a complete exit from specific European markets. Xbox seems to be streamlining its operations to better align with current economic and business strategies.
