According to rumours, Microsoft is going to launch the first beta version of Windows Blue, a.k.a Windows 8.1, later in June at the BUILD developer conference. It will then proceed to release and sell the final version to consumers at some point in September. Reports suggest that Microsoft could officially reveal the Windows 8.1 OS by the end of May – well before the BUILD conference. If you have missed any of our Windows 8.1 coverage then be sure to check that out here.
A report that cited Microsoft Windows CFO Tami Reller, said that the final designation, pricing and packaging details are likely to be revealed one month before the BUILD developer conference. This is to assist Microsoft in stirring up some interest for the new OS. This means we can expect to see Windows 8.1 on May 26th.
“Blue is an update. That’s a good way to describe it, that’s a good way to think about it” said Windows CFO Tami Reller.
While there has been a tonne of speculation and rumours floating back and forth, the most hotly talked about topic is the potential return of the start button. While Microsoft haven’t said anything specific about this exact thing, they have stated they are listening to customer feedback:
“The Windows Blue update is also an opportunity for us to respond to the customer feedback that we’ve been closely listening to since the launch of Windows 8 and Windows RT. From a company-wide perspective, Windows Blue is part of a broader effort to advance our devices and services for Microsoft” said Reller.
