MindsEye Is Much Shorter Than Most AAA Games
Today, video games keep getting bigger and longer. But some developers are going in the opposite direction—by choice or necessity. One of these games is MindsEye, the new title from former GTA producer Leslie Benzies.
Benzies recently spoke again about how long MindsEye will be, and explained the reason behind this choice.
A Focused Game With No Wasted Time
In an interview with GamesIndustry, Benzies talked about the price of MindsEye, which is $60. That’s lower than the usual price for a big open-world AAA game.
He confirmed that the main story of MindsEye will last about 20 hours. There are also side missions for players who want more time in the game. However, the goal was to avoid adding “filler” content—that is, things that don’t really matter but are just there to stretch the game length.
Benzies explained that today, gamers have a lot of things competing for their time, not just video games but also TV shows and other media. Creating a shorter, more focused game makes it easier for people to actually play it from start to finish.
He also said that many players—around 60–70%—never finish longer games. That’s why he believes a shorter game like MindsEye is better, so more people can complete it and enjoy the full story. The side missions will help expand character stories and give more details about the game’s world.
As for the price, Benzies said something funny: “People are worried about the price of eggs.” Because of this, he wants MindsEye to be worth every dollar, and he believes $60 is the right price.
