MindsEye Workers Take Legal Action Over Alleged Tracking Software
Problems around MindsEye continue to grow, and now a group of employees from Build A Rocket Boy, the studio behind the game, has taken legal action against the company over an alleged breach of privacy. The issue comes after monitoring software called Teramind was installed on their work devices. According to the IWGB Game Workers Union, this software was not clearly communicated to staff.
The union explains that more than 40 workers signed a collective complaint in March asking for the removal of the software, and the company eventually removed it from the devices. However, the union says the company has still not explained what data was collected, how it was stored, or why the tool was used in the first place. The case has now been taken to ACAS, the UK’s labor mediation body, and to the Information Commissioner’s Office, the country’s data protection authority.
Over 40 MindsEye Developers Protest Use of Monitoring Tool on Their Devices
The union argues that the use of Teramind goes beyond normal limits for productivity or security monitoring. It claims the software could record keystrokes, screen activity, and even microphone audio. At the same time, Teramind’s own website describes it as a tool designed for employee monitoring, with features such as screenshots, screen recording, keystroke logging, and app usage tracking.
This legal issue adds to the problems already faced by the studio after the difficult launch of MindsEye. The union had previously filed another complaint against Build A Rocket Boy over how layoffs were handled last year. In its latest statement, the union says the studio carried out 300 layoffs following poor sales and negative reception of the game, which was considered one of the worst releases of 2025.
All of this also connects with comments made by the company’s CEO, Mark Gerhard, in recent months. In an interview published at the end of March, he said the studio had very solid evidence of an organized campaign of sabotage and corporate espionage. He also stated that authorities in the UK and the United States were aware of the situation. In the same discussion, he mentioned that a future update for MindsEye would include a mission called Blacklist, which would contain supposed evidence related to these claims.
