Mojang Unveils the First New Dimension in 15 Years – The Sift!

It has been a long time since we saw something this big added, but Minecraft is finally expanding its horizons. During the recent Minecraft Live showcase, Mojang announced The Sift, the game’s first entirely new dimension in 15 years. Set to join the Overworld, the Nether, and the End, the latter of which made its debut with the full 1.0 release back in 2011, The Sift promises to inject a fresh wave of exploration into the iconic sandbox title, and no doubt a heck of a lot of new elements within. While Mojang is keeping a lot of the specifics under wraps for now, they did reveal a brief teaser. The short clip featured a peculiar, bunny-like creature walking across vibrant pink grass, set against a striking turquoise sky. As with any new dimension, players can expect a host of unique mobs, blocks, and biomes to discover when it officially lands in both the Bedrock and Java editions sometime in 2027.

A Glimpse Into The Sift

For those eager to dive into this new world, you will not have to wait until 2027 to get a taste of it. A version of The Sift is set to feature prominently in Minecraft Dungeons 2, which is launching shortly, not that I know anyone that plays Minecraft Dungeons, but I’m sure some do. According to updates on Xbox Wire, this spin-off version of the dimension will introduce shifting tides that directly impact player characters, alongside a range of hazardous new blocks and a mix of both friendly and hostile mobs.

The developers have also revealed two distinct biomes within this realm. Singer’s Meadow is built around striking red sculk, while the Carapace is described as a desert area dotted with strange blue walls and massive hollow fossils. Mojang has noted that this iteration of The Sift in Dungeons 2 may differ somewhat from the version that eventually makes its way into the main game. However, after a decade and a half without a new dimension, fans are undoubtedly eager to see what surprises are in store.

Features

  • Release window: Arriving in Minecraft Java and Bedrock Editions in 2027.

The End Update?

Well, a lot of you were waiting for an update for The End, expecting it, hoping for it even, but no, this is not that.
