A little under 2 months ago, I wrote an article daring to suggest that Monster Hunter could be coming to the PC. Two months later I am delighted to report that the rumours were proven to be true. Monster Hunter is coming to the PC as a new title ‘Monster Hunter World’!

Monster Hunter World? For PC? Tell me more!

When I originally wrote the article I suggested that such a game would be prime for PC users. Integrating the fantastic style of the Monster Hunter series with the accessibility and control of a PC. Oh, how I was flayed alive for it! Accused of click-baiting, I was! Hounded! Ridiculed! There were clearly those that thought this would never happen. While I admit the article was speculative, there was

There were clearly those that thought this would never happen. While I admit the article was speculative, there was reasoning behind it. Monster Hunter is perfect for PC gaming.

We don’t know many details. But then again, how much do we need to know? If you know Monster Hunter then you know exactly what to expect from Monster Hunter World.

An MMORPG set in an open world with co-op for killing beasties. Think of it as a cross between World of Warcraft, Dark Souls, Final Fantasy and Shadow of the Colossus. Big monsters, ridiculously huge swords, team play and tactical challenge.

Monster Hunter World is definitely going to be a hot title is what Capcom says it found to be true.

What has Capcom said?

Here is Capcoms full statement.

“Monster Hunter: World introduces a living, breathing ecosystem in which players take on the role of a hunter that seeks and slays ferocious beasts in heart-pounding battles that unfold across the vast ever-changing terrain.

Retaining the series’ skill based progression and robust crafting system, players gear up to venture on quests to seek and slay monsters, progressively improving their skills to become the ultimate hunter. Loot collected from fallen foes can be used to create new equipment and armor upgrades styled after the monsters they’ve slain, allowing hunters to survive the elements and defeat the tougher opponents that await them.

Monster Hunter: World delivers a seamless gameplay experience allowing players to move freely across map areas that comprise the living ecosystems and dynamically transition from day to night. The landscape and its diverse inhabitants play a critical role in each quest as players strategically use the surrounding environment including terrain, vegetation and wildlife to their advantage in battle or become hindered by the hazards they present. Hunters must use their cunning and abilities to track and maneuver their targets throughout the intense, evolving battles.

With flexible online multiplayer options and an accessible quest structure, players can tackle challenges alone or join up to three other hunters online for cooperative play. For the first time in the Monster Hunter™ series, players from Japan and the west can play together online, providing an expanded base of cooperative hunting companions. With the new online drop-in functionality, solo players can hail for assistance from the worldwide group during quests when their opponents are too daunting to take on single-handedly.”

In brief, this is exactly what fans of the series want.

Sounds Great!

Well, there is a catch. Some unconfirmed reports have suggested that the PC version might be a little watered down. Even so much as suggesting only 30fps with no 4k support. I hope these rumours are not true. I always felt that a fully ultra high-resolution world, which the PC could provide, would be the real showcase for this series.

We have the trailer available to view below. I’m still delighted to see it getting a PC release, even if it will only be at 30fps. Don’t get too excited, however, we’re looking at at least 1 year before this comes out on console. Even worse, the PC users are going to have to wait a little longer. Oh well. Better late than never.

Monster Hunter World is set for release on the PS4, Xbox One and PC 2018.

PS – I told you so 😛
