More Details Revealed on How the Nvidia 4070 Might Beat the 3090 Ti!

Over the last couple of weeks, we’ve seen more than a few rumours appear online suggesting something which, quite frankly, seemed unbelievable. Namely, that the upcoming Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070 was going to offer a gaming performance roughly on par with that seen from the behemoth 3090 Ti.

Now, just in case it needed to be said, typically speaking, generational performance gaps are not usually this substantial (Nor, indeed, in this direction). Usually, it’s up a generation and a model down for rough comparative performance (ie. 1080 to 2070, 2080 to 3070, etc.) – Given that the 4070 will only effectively represent the upper-mid tier of the 40XX series, however, it seems more than a little bizarre to suggest it might compete (and possibly beat) the best the 30XX graphics card series had to offer!

Will this actually be the case though? Well, following a fresh leak from ‘@kopite7kimi‘ the answer still appears to be yes. This time around though, we might have a pretty solid idea as to how Nvidia is going to make this happen!

Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070 = 3090 Ti?!

Now, of course, the Nvidia 4070 shouldn’t really offer much competition to the 3090 Ti. Based on what we know so far, it has significantly fewer CUDA cores and much less VRAM. So, how was this going to even be possible? Well, one leak last week suggested that a key factor in this was the implementation of a significantly higher than previously believed memory bus speed which is now 40-45% faster than originally stated.

So far so good, right?… Well, apparently, it gets even better!

So, while this is certainly good stuff, what’s actually changed in this new leak? Well, it’s now being suggested that the boost clock speed for the 4070 might be pushed as high as 2.8GHz and possibly even more! – In other words, while lacking the outright gruntiness of the masses of CUDA cores seen on the 3090 Ti, everything else on the 4070 is seemingly getting ramped up to bring a level of performance parity!

Now no, we don’t expect the Nvidia 4070 to be a better workload GPU. And, in fairness, all leaks have predominantly suggested that we are purely looking at gaming performance. Still though, if the 4070 is truly going to compete/rub shoulders with the 3090 Ti, what on earth can we possibly expect from the 4080, 4080 Ti, 4090, and 4090 Ti?

We have no idea, but it’s going to be fun finding out!
