MSI and ADATA’s High-Capacity 4-Rank CUDIMMs Demonstrated @ CES 2026

CES 2026: The eTeknix team is here at CES 2026 in Las Vegas, bringing you coverage of the latest, greatest, and next-generation of PC hardware, components, gaming tech, and much more! While we’re currently on the show floor taking many pictures and having meetings, we will endeavor to update our live gallery throughout the day, which you can check out here!
MSI
MSI has reached a major milestone in memory technology at CES 2026 by showcasing the world’s first motherboard to support 4-Rank CUDIMM (Clocked Unbuffered DIMM) modules. Developed in partnership with ADATA, these modules feature a groundbreaking 4-rank architecture. This is a design typically reserved for server-grade hardware, but it’s slowly working its way to consumer products. This design effectively doubles the capacity of traditional consumer memory. This allows for a massive 128GB per stick, enabling a staggering 256GB total system memory on 2-DIMM motherboards (1 Slot Per Channel). This high density is particularly vital for AI developers, data scientists, and creative professionals who require localised memory for large-scale datasets and 8K video editing without the need for a complex HEDT system; albeit it doesn’t really alleviate the astronomical costs.

Beyond raw capacity, these CUDIMM modules utilise an onboard Client Clock Driver (CKD) to maintain signal integrity at extreme frequencies. MSI’s R&D team successfully validated these modules on Intel Z890 prototype motherboards, passing stable burn-in tests at speeds exceeding 10,000 MT/s (in 1-Rank configurations). During live demos at the event, the 4-rank 256GB setup demonstrated a performance increase of over 63% compared to standard configurations. By optimising the 1SPC design to reduce signal interference, MSI ensures that enthusiasts no longer have to choose between extreme overclocking potential and workstation-class memory limits.

So yeah, pretty extreme capacity and speed, but like most things, this will trickle down to more consumer friendly models in the future.
Motherboards Supporting 256GB 4-Rank CUDIMM:
- MAG Z890 TOMAHAWK WIFI (Confirmed support for CUDIMM standards)
- MEG X870E UNIFY-X MAX (Specifically designed for extreme memory OC with a 2-DIMM layout)
- MSI Z890 Prototype (Intel) (The primary demonstration platform for the 128GB per-stick breakthrough)
