MSI

MSI’s new GPU Safeguard+ technology, debuting at CES 2026, represents a significant evolution in power supply safety designed specifically for high-performance hardware like the RTX 5090. While previous innovations focused on physical connection security through dual-color connectors, GPU Safeguard+ moves into active monitoring. The system constantly tracks internal currents and power spikes across individual pins within the 12V-2×6 connector. By identifying hidden anomalies such as current imbalances or prolonged surges before they lead to overheating or melted connectors, MSI aims to provide a preemptive shield for expensive enthusiast-grade components.

The “Plus” variant of this technology, featured on the premium MPG series power supplies, offers a sophisticated multi-stage alert system. When a fault is detected, the PSU immediately triggers an audible beep and sends a digital pop-up notification via MSI Center. This phase is designed to give users a critical three-minute window to save their work or exit a game before the system takes defensive action. This approach balances hardware safety with user convenience, ensuring that a sudden safety intervention doesn’t result in the loss of unsaved data.

If the user does not intervene within the three-minute warning period, the GPU Safeguard+ system prioritises hardware integrity by forcing a black screen and initiating a protective shutdown. To restore the system, users must perform a manual inspection: shutting down the PC, unplugging the 12V-2×6 connector to check for potential damage, and ensuring a firm reseat. By combining real-time hardware monitoring with software integration, MSI’s latest MPG and MAG power supplies offer a robust fail-safe against the thermal and electrical risks associated with modern high-wattage graphics cards.

With the PSU being digital, you get total control and monitoring functions via the desktop software too. This allows you to monitor output wattages, temperatures, system uptime, and how much power you’ve used.

You also get to see the status of the pins, we know these pins can be problematic, so you can keep a real time check on them with GPU Safeguard+.

Even seeing voltages stability, which shouldn’t matter for most users, but can be a great tool for those dealing with overclocking.

And being able to graph out your weekly consumption is really clever, allowing you to monitor operation costs over time.
