Setup

MSI has designed this to be versatile, powerful and practical, but also pretty easy to setup too. It comes with a power adaptor that supports UK/US plugs, and a single Ethernet patch cable, and that’s it really. You just plug it in and get on with your setup. Connectivity is good too, with a USB 3.0 port on the back, which can be used for storage devices, printers and more. There’s a 2.5Gbps WAN/LAN port, and 4 x 1Gbps ports.

On the underside, there’s plenty of ventilation and further ventilation around the sides, ensuring the device stays cool. It’s passively cooled too, so it’s nice and quiet. There are some rubber feet, but as you can see, it can be wall mounted too.

The controllers are simple enough, with an LED off button, WiFibutton, and WPS button, everything else is just indicator LEDs, all pretty easy really.

A lovely 3D MSI logo on the front though, I like that.

There are six antennae on the MSI RadiX AX6600 WiFi 6 Gaming Router, and with support for 2.4G and dual 5G, keeping large amounts of wireless devices connected with a strong signal and good speeds shouldn’t be an issue.

Plus, I think it looks pretty fantastic and being able to move the antenna means you can really fine tune it to suit your needs and space.

The setup is one of the easiest I’ve ever had, or at least the fastest. The UI is really nicely designed, with enough easy-to-understand details for networking noobs but enough technical stuff in there for the enthusiasts too.

There’s an AI Auto mode, which is great, as it’ll prioritise network traffic on the fly. However, you can lock it into gaming mode, streaming mode, or even Work From Home mode to suit your needs. It’s very easy to monitor the overall performance.

There’s a Game Turbo Booster feature too, cutting networking latency down even further for both wired and wireless connectivity.

I’ve had trouble setting up port forwarding, VPN and more on many routers, but this is by far one of the easiest I’ve seen.

Everything is clearly explained and easily found in the settings, which is great.

If you do want to dive into more advanced modes, there are extensive options for firewalls, parental control, QoS, IPv6 and much more, as you would expect from such a high-end router.

However, for most people, just having the AI modes enabled will ensure you get the best performance for most tasks.

Even the USB port is easily customised, being able to run file servers, downloads and more on the port turning your router into a more versatile hub for your network.

My internet is having a slow day today, which is a shame as I was hoping to flex the full 1.21 gigawatts or 1200Mbps, I get those mixed up. Alas, this router is absolutely no slouch over WiFi.

The same again on my Samsung S22 Ultra from the furthest corner of my house and upstairs, just absolutely killer signal strength.
