MSI RTX 5070 Ti Vanguard SOC Review

Today, we have something quite exciting, as we’re taking a look at the MSI RTX 5070 Ti Vanguard SOC, which is a completely new line-up for the 50 series, and something we’ve not had a chance to look at since its inception. As part of the Vanguard series, the RTX 5070 Ti VANGUARD SOC is one of MSI’s more premium graphics cards. This means you get more premium materials, a more outlandish cooler design, a bigger heatsink, a huge dose of RGB lighting, and, of course, faster speeds.

Unfortunately, all this does come at a cost. However, it offers something for users wanting a high-tier MSI-based GPU without paying the somewhat unreachable price of the SUPRIM series, which sits above it. I’m all for paying more money for a graphics card, as long as I’m getting more for my money, and that’s something we’ll be taking a look at and putting to the test today.

MSI RTX 5070 Ti Vanguard SOC

We’ve already tested the Nvidia 5070 Ti at launch when we looked at the MSI Ventus 3X model, so if you want to see how a “stock” 5070 Ti does in terms of GPU core performance, then definitely go and check that out. Since then, we’ve also had models from both INNO3D and PNY, but this card, in theory, should be in that next echelon of performance, sporting a pretty hefty 150MHz pre-factory overclock. Hopefully, that large cooler helps in the thermal department too.

Features

  • Powered by the NVIDIA Blackwell architecture and DLSS 4
  • Core Clocks:
    • Extreme Performance: 2602 MHz (MSI Centre)
    • Boost: 2588 MHz (GAMING & SILENT Mode)
  • HYPER FROZR THERMAL DESIGN: An apex evolution of advanced thermal design that delivers unparalleled cooling and quiet operation.
  • STORMFORCE Fan: Seven fan blades, claw texturing, and a circular arc are designed for optimal airflow with minimal noise.
  • Advanced Vapor Chamber: Built-in Vapor Chamber swiftly transfers heat from the GPU and VRAM to the core pipe for optimal dissipation.
  • Core Pipes: Square-shaped Core Pipes maximise heat dissipation with the Vapor Chamber for superior cooling.
  • Filled Fins: Shaped fins cover the core pipes to reduce turbulence and enhance cooling performance.
  • Wave Curved 4.0: Precision-engineered wave edges with a high-low fin design enhance airflow and reduce turbulence.
  • Air Antegrade Fin 2.0: The fins feature a V-shaped cutout and a high-low design at the airflow passthrough to optimise flow efficiency.
  • Metal Backplate: A reinforcing metal backplate with airflow vents and thermal pads enhances cooling.
  • Dual BIOS: Dual BIOS gives you the choice to prioritise for full performance in GAMING mode or low noise in SILENT mode.
  • MSI Center: The exclusive MSI Centre software lets you monitor, tweak and optimise MSI products in real-time.
  • Afterburner: Take full control with the most recognised and widely used graphics card overclocking software in the world.

What MSI Had to Say

“The MSI GeForce RTX 5070 Ti 16G GAMING TRIO OC is a high-performance graphics card featuring NVIDIA’s GeForce RTX 5070 Ti GPU based on the Blackwell architecture. It boasts 8960 CUDA cores and 16GB of GDDR7 memory with a 256-bit bus, operating at 28 Gbps. The card utilises the PCI Express 5.0 interface and offers three DisplayPort 2.1b and one HDMI 2.1b outputs, supporting up to 4K 480Hz or 8K 120Hz with DSC, Gaming VRR, and HDR. MSI’s TRI FROZR 4 thermal design incorporates STORMFORCE fans, a nickel-plated copper baseplate, and core pipes for efficient cooling. The card measures 338 x 140 x 50 mm and features a metal backplate for reinforcement. It supports DirectX 12 Ultimate and OpenGL 4.6, and is equipped with a 16-pin power connector.” – MSI
