MSI Z170A TOMAHAWK (LGA1151) Motherboard Review

Storage Performance

Linear Read

The MSI Z170A TOMAHAWK offers extraordinary M.2 read performance which destroys the majority of other motherboards. As you can see, the 826MB/s figure is nothing short of sublime and genuinely took me by surprise. Furthermore, the SATA read rate remains very good and USB 3.0 performance is competitive.

Linear Write

This exceptional showing continues in linear write testing and the motherboard posts remarkably high M.2 speeds. Not only that, the SATA read rate is very consistent and not too far from the top results. The USB 3.0 numbers were good and just fell shy of 190MB/s.
