Mushkin Redline Lumina 32GB 3600MHz DDR4 Memory Review

How Much Does It Cost?

As with most hardware these days, the Mushkin Redline 32GB 3600MHz DDR4 Memory stock is erratic, and so are the prices, but that’s hardly Muskins fault. However, it would appear the kit is currently $184.99 in the US, but importing fees look to be quite low, so that could be an option for you. Unfortunately, I couldn’t see the 32GB (2 x 16GB) kit available here in the UK. However, the 16GB (2 x 8GB) kit of the 3600 MHz set is just £77.92, which I think is pretty great value in today’s market.

Overview

It may have been a while since I last saw a Muskin kit in the office, but I must admit, I’m very happy to see them return. They’ve always been a great brand for striking a good balance between design, price, and performance, which never really compromising on reliability and the components they use. The same is true of the latest addition to the Muskin Redline series.

Design

They’ve kept things incredibly simple here. While many brands focus on over-designed modules for their RGB, Mushkin has seemingly worked their RGB into a more modest configuration. This is good, as it means the overall RAM height is barely any different from standard DIMMs, making compatibility extremely high.

The aluminium heat spreaders are two pieces glued to each side of the PCB using thermal material. As far as I can see, there’s no mechanical connection, but they feel very secure overall. They also sandwich the diffuser for the RGB on the top, which helps give it a more uniform lighting effect.

Mushkin does provide their own software for adjusting the RGB, but it is also compatible with most major motherboard RGB software suites too.

Performance

It really does perform right on the money. Looking at similar capacity kits and similar speed kits, it’s what I expected, really. But, of course, that is a good thing; you’re getting what you pay for. That is, it’s a big capacity and relatively high-speed kit, so for those wanting to build a high-end workstation, rendering system, or gaming PC, 32GB of memory running at 3600 MHz is more than enough for most. I didn’t get very far with overclocking, just another 200 MHz, but that’s pretty good given the size of the heatspreaders. This isn’t an overclocking kit though, and it’s better suited to a more plug and play setup.

Should I Buy Them?

Mushkin has over 25 years of experience and a solid reputation for reliability. They’re competitive with their warranty (lifetime), and they’ve always been competitive on price. So if you’re looking for a high-capacity, competitively fast set of DDR4 memory that is compact, stylish and doesn’t overdo the aesthetics like most other RGB memory, you’ll love what the Mushkin Redline Lumina 32GB 3600MHz DDR4 Memory has to offer!
