NES Cartridges Being Used to Smuggle Spiders?!

Smuggling anything around the world is no doubt tricky business. I mean, you’ve got a box full of spiders, and you know you can’t just keep them in your pocket. So what do you do? Apparently, the answer to that question is hiding them inside an old-school Nintendo NES cartridge!

73 Spiders Found in NES cartridge?!

The inspection teams at Guadalajara International Airport on the United States-Mexico border discovered a package that did not have the correct paperwork. This red flag quickly led to an inspection. Upon inspection, they discovered 73 small plastic tubes stashed inside some of the old NES (Famicom) cartridges, reports Mexican newspaper La Crónica de Hoy (via The Express).

If you’re not a fan of spiders, you may not want to watch the video below. The video shows the 8-legged critters discovered in the tubes inside the cartridges.

Why?

What kind of spiders were smuggled isn’t clear, or why. I’m guessing they’re a breed that is illegal otherwise they wouldn’t have gone to the trouble of trying to hide them. Hopefully, none of these games found their way back into the market. I’m no stranger to blowing in the bottom of a cartridge to clear dust. However, I sure as hell don’t want to find a bunch of spiders clogging up my cartridges… shudder!
