Netflix Increases the Price of Standard Plan

Bad news for those of you who prefer to watch your favorite shows on Netflix, as the company has decided to increase the base price for its standard service by $1. While this might not seem like a huge increase, many users have already expressed their frustration with the news, as the service will now cost $9.99 per month up from $8.99. On the other hand, the news was received with enthusiasm by investors, as Netflix’s shares have increased 6 percent following the announcement. Netflix has stated that the price bump was implemented in order to be able to provide “more great content to users”, which is usually the most popular excuse.
The price increase is only applicable to new customers for now, but existing users will also have to pay more after October 2016. The prices for other Netflix options have remained the same, which means that you can still go ahead and opt for a non-HD streaming service for $7.99 per month, or for the family share option with Ultra HD streams for $11.99 per month. The bottom line is that everyone who plans to enjoy the company’s standard service will have to pay $12 extra per year. We’ll just have to wait and see if it’s going to be worth it.
