The company Netflix which offers streamed digital content for a monthly subscription fee has made a large expansionary move into Latin America and the Caribbean. The company’s service went live in Brazil on the 5th of September and by the 12th it will have been spread to most of Latin America and the Caribbean. Netflix Latin America will offer the streaming service in the same style as its North American equivalent: to computers, games consoles and TV sets.
Foreign and Domestic content will be streamed, Netflix have licensed a substantial amount of international content for the launch as well as popular South American “Telenovelas”. The challenge posed by spreading to Latin America and the Caribbean is huge given the extent of Broadband uptake and the poor quality of Broadband lines and speeds. The success of this launch also has huge implications for whether Europe and Asia will be next in the Netflix expansion.
