Netgear will demonstrate their first 450Mbps LTE mobile hotspot this week at the Mobile World Congress trade show in Barcelona. The new hotspot is the first of Netgear’s to support the category 9 LTE Advanced technology and will be released under the AirCard series.
The AirCard mobile hotspot supports 4G LTE Advanced Category 9 and 3-Carrier Aggregation. It aggregates up to three bands to provide up to 60 MHz of bandwidth for a potential download speed up to 450 Mbps. The hotspot is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon X12 LTE modem and a QCA6174 2-stream 802.11ac Wi-Fi chipset. Availability is set for later in 2015 from multiple unspecified service providers.
While LTE doesn’t have the best coverage yet, this mobile hotspot would be a great thing to have when located in a coverage sweet-spot. It would truly eliminate the need for those long outdated copper lines that still are being used in most areas.
