Packaging aside, we are able to take a closer look at the very compact repeater. The unit measures in at a mere 67 x 55 x 34mm, or about the size of an average plug mounted transformer and is finished in gloss white. Across the middle of the face, Netgear have embossed in their name to make it stand out a little more.
The three LEDs on the unit each have simple, yet important functions, the most important of which is the top LED. This indicates the link rate (or in other words the signal strength) to the main router to which this unit is connected. A traffic light system indicates either the best signal or one that is good or poor for repeating. The middle LED has a very simple job, indicating the power status and the lower LED lights up when a device is connected to the repeater.
Just to the side of the unit are two buttons, one of which has a self explanatory use to turn the unit on and off. The padlock marked button is for WPS setup. By setting the main router in to WPS connection mode (normally by pressing a button on the side) and then pressing this button, the unit automatically configures itself in a minute or two depending on signal strength.
Also on the back is a sticker with the default access credentials both for system admin purposes and wireless security.
