New Canon 1D X Mark II Can Shoot 4K Video

Canon has unveiled its new flagship camera, the EOS-1D X Mark II, which is capable of shooting 4K video. The camera features a full-frame 20.2-megapixel camera, can shoot photos at 14fps using autofocus and 16fps in Live View mode, and can shoot 4K RAW video at 60fps. With a native ISO range of 100-51200, which is expandable to 409600, the 1D X Mark II excels at shooting in low light.

While the body of the camera is effectively the same as its predecessor – the EOS-1D X from 2012 – it boasts an improved 1.62 million-dot 3.2-inch rear LCD monitor, with a viewing angle of 170o, horizontally and vertically.

The 1D X Mark II is likely to excite filmmakers as well as photographers, with previous Canon EOS models becoming increasingly popular in shooting film and television. House was the first TV show to shoot an entire episode using a Canon 5D Mark II, with its compact build allowing the small-space shooting not afforded by its usual 35mm film format cameras. The 5D and 7D later graduated to being used in Hollywood blockbusters, such as Captain America, The Avengers, and Black Swan.

The Canon EOS-1D X Mark II is due out in April, priced $5,999 for the body alone, with the 64GB CFast card and reader bundle costing $6,299. The compatible Wi-Fi adapter will be available separately for $600.
