An intriguing FCC filing has been submitted by Google under the codename FCC ID A4R-GG1. Usually, the FCC’s EUTis quite specific and outlines the product category. In this case, the filing simply states, “BLUETOOTH & DTS/UNII a/b/g/n/ac” with the model title GG1. It’s possible the GG1 stands for Google Glass 1 which could indicate a revised model of Google’s innovative wearable.
The documentation is fairly lengthy and lacking in concrete detail. However, we do know that the device will support 802.11a/b/g/n/ac WiFi in 2.4GHz and 5GHz network protocols. Additionally, the GG1 utilizes soldered, rechargeable batteries but the exact mAh isn’t known at this time. Other features include Bluetooth LE functionality, an AC adapter and USB cable for data transfer.
Another important piece of evidence which may support the Google Glass theory is the FCC e-label. Instead of a physical tag, there is an e-label embedded in the software under regulatory information. Interestingly, the e-label’s resolution is 640×380 and identical to the Google Glass display.
While there are hints suggesting the device is the latest Google Glass SKU, it might be a completely brand new product based on wearable technology. Perhaps it’s a fitness tool which allows you to monitor steps taken like a pedometer and sync results with the cloud. Given the lucrative nature of the fitness market, this would be a sensible strategy.
