New Patent Application Reveals Smoke Detectors Could be Included in Apple Devices

Patently Apple has drawn attention to an interesting new patent application from Apple that could see smoke detectors included in Apple devices.

The patent reveals that Apple’s Macs, iPhones iPads and even watches could detect smoke and send an alert to the emergency services, activate sprinklers or even locate the occupants of a burning building.

“Apple states that in the future, an electronic device such as an iPhone, iPad, Mac computer or other electronic equipment may include a smoke detector. The electronic device may use the smoke detector to monitor for the presence of smoke. In response to detecting smoke with the smoke detector, the electronic device may issue an alert or take other suitable action.”

It would certainly be interesting to see this concept become a reality – it could go some way to protect people from fires.
