New Quad core for the Sandy Bridge line up

As you have seen recently Intel has certainly not been shy in releasing processors based on the Sandy Bridge architecture. If you missed the release of the new Sandy Bridge Celeron’s see here for that or if you missed the release of the new Sandy Bridge i3’s you can see that here. But Intel hasn’t released a new i5 in the Sandy Bridge for a while so the new i5 2320 is a welcome addition to the range.

The new i5 2320 will sit between the i5 2310 and the i5 2500 in terms of performance and pricing. This processor will be based on the 32nm architecture and will come equipped with four cores. It will not support Hyper threading since it is not an i7 processor. It will come with 6MB of Intel’s Smart Cache and the stock clock speed will be 3GHz. With 3.3GHz in turbo mode but notably this is not a “k” processor so it will have a locked multiplier.

The introductory price will probably be around $195 (wholesale price for 1000units will be $177) since that is about the half way point between the i5 2310 which costs $180 and the i5 2500 which costs $205. The TDP of this processor will be 95W like most of the Sandy Bridge i5 range. It will also have the built Intel graphics but unfortunately only the slower HD 2000 over the faster HD 3000, that will utilise the standard 850MHz clock speed.
